Valrhona chocolate cake filled with raspberry buttercream, iced in a deep pink rolled fondant, finished with a quilled sugar heart on top and a scalloped ombre band at bottom.

Betty Bakery’s Lemon Bundt Cake was picked as one of the “Ten Cakes Worth Buying” by Bon Appetit! Wow! We’re representing Brooklyn and could not be prouder. Check out the write-up:
6. Betty Bakery’s Lemon Cake
It’s the super-moist 7-inch cake, not the bundt, you want at this little Brooklyn shop. They’re both good, but the littler cake really soaks in the double lemon glaze that chef Cheryl Kleinman applies to its top. It’s prettier, too, thanks to a doily and a shaking of powdered confectioner’s sugar.

Kate + Daniel
We put a lot of love into making cakes for our customers and we like to admire the finished cakes here in our shop before they fly out the door to be ooh-ed and aah-ed and eaten. We rarely get to see them in action, so when couples send us photos of their wedding celebrations it’s always an extra treat.

Kate and Daniel opted for a small display cutting cake decorated in sweet pink roses and petals. But they wanted their guests to have lots of options and so provided an assortment of our buttercream layer cakes — banana cake with banana chip garnishes, white cake filled with vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam, and a coconut/lemon buttercream cake decorated with delicate coconut flakes. Says Kate, “I’m not kidding when I say there was a STAMPEDE for them! They were gone in a matter of minutes! People are still talking about how delicious they were.”

We absolutely love the way the soft candlelight from votives illuminate the warm pink tones in the cake. And of course the cake cutting! Congratulations, Kate + Daniel, and thanks for sharing your photos!

A night of celebration
Last week comedian Mike Birbiglia premiered his film, Sleepwalk With Me at the BAMcinemaFest‘s opening night. That alone is cause for celebration, but the night was made extra sweet by the fact that it was his birthday, too! Betty Bakery made a pizza cake to mark the occasions, and it was presented to Mike by his collaborator, This American Life host Ira Glass.

Citrus for your sweet tooth
After a gloriously sunny weekend we were certain that the pleasant, brief time of year that comes between spring and summer had finally arrived in New York City. When the sundresses and shorts reappear, warm and breezy days followed by cool nights of al fresco dining and beer garden lounging. The time of year that makes you crave lemonade and fresh fruit after the long hibernation of heavy winter foods.
But this week has been all downpour and thunder… so it looks like we’ll have to create our own version of summer in the kitchen. Take a peek:
For a while now our Strawberry Lemonade has replaced the hot chocolate and cider as the seasonal drink of choice. If you haven’t tried it, you must, because we use strawberry puree and fresh squeezed lemons, and it’s tart and sweet and quenching. ($3.50 for 16oz)
